The first post office in Emmet County was established in what is now
Emmet Township, where the first settlement was made in 1856. George C.
Granger had opened a small store there and around the store and post office
grew up a little hamlet that became known as Emmet Grove. No plat of
the place was ever filed in the office of the county recorder and after the
post office was discontinued the village--if such it could be
called--gradually became extinct.
