Samuel Eugene Cicotello Born: May 18, 1920 Married: January 4, 1947 Died: February 23, 1995 Sam's birth certificate states "baby boy" and the family name is spelled "Chickadell". He was baptized with the given name Samuel Eugene. While growing up, Sam was also called Sammy. He graduated from Portage High, class of 1939, and played center on the football team. In 1941, he applied and was selected for an apprentice position with Westinghouse Corporation in East Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he worked as a tool maker and in supervisory positions until retirement in 1979. He is a veteran of World War II. While serving as an enlisted man in the US Army transportation in Manila, The Philippines, with duty assignment as an amphibious "duck" vehicle driver, he visited brother Paul at the nearby Clark Air Force Base, who was stationed there with the US Air Force. After military discharge, Sam joined the US Army Reserves, assigned as a supply sergeant and retired as a Master Sergeant. During the Berlin Conflict in 1961-62, he was called to active duty for 13 months.
